What is a Garden Railroad?
Technically it is a large scale model train running on Gauge 1 track through your landscaping. Yes, you read that right, a toy train for your yard!Created in Germany in 1968 by the LGB toy company, “G” scale trains are finding a growing popularity in the U.S. as an enjoyable backyard family hobby. Like indoor model trains, a backyard train can have passing sidings, stations and industry. But that is where the similarity stops. The brass track is weatherproof and can be placed permanently in the garden. Thus, a Garden Train becomes part of your living landscape. Scale trees and plants, bridges, running streams, waterfalls and ponds all make this model train come alive.
With many manufactures now offering a variety of train models, buildings and accessories, the homeowner can create a realistic or fantastic railroad of their imagination. In fact, there are so many choices now that a train can be electric, battery or steam powered. It can be a analog throttle or digital remote control. The scale can range from 1/32 to 1/22.5. |
One of the many reasons LGB is considered the best made garden railroad worldwide, is the quality of the product. For example, they have extra deep wheel flanges to help keep them on track. Fine details on LGB trains, like exposed handrails, are made oversize so they'll survive accidents and repeated handling. LGB couplers are engineered to keep your trains together on rough track. WIth LGB G-scale trains - you know your trains will keep running - indoors and out!
